Once awarded the title of the best beach in Europe, S’Amarador is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in Mallorca. Tucked on the island’s southeast coast, expect fine white sands and crystal clear waters sheltered by a pine forest as part of Mondrago Natural Park. Shallow waters are ideal for wading, with sun loungers and parasols for rent and a small beach bar for snacks. Officially known as Caló de n’Alis, its white-as-sugar sands and turquoise waters are ideal for snorkelling, with sun loungers and umbrellas for hire to laze upon in-between dips. The cliff village of Deià in northwestern Mallorca is known for its artistic locals and pretty pebble beach. A long, narrow road leads to the waters sheltered by woodlands admired for their natural beauty that includes two beachside chiringuito-style restaurants serving simple seafood dishes. Nestled in a bay hugged by rocky cliffs, Es Caló des Moro is a small beach only 40 metres long and lined with powder-fine sand and crystal-clear waters that sparkle in the most beautiful shades of blue in the summer sun. The scenic location makes it protected and ideal for swimming, with access to the sands via a steep flight of stairs. This pristine natural setting brings beauty in spades yet also means no facilities, including restaurants, so pack a picnic.

This unspoilt beach is now a national park in southern Mallorca near the holiday resort town of Colonia Sant Jordi. Anyone looking to master their first turns on the snow, Méribel is home to some incredible beginner friendly zones. <a href="https://www.meribel.net/en/apidae/the-yeti-park/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Yeti park in Méribel-Mottaret</a> is dedicated to new skiers and snowboarders and is surrounded by gentle, wide runs leaving beginners to enjoy the slopes in peace. Altiport is another fantastic option, perfect for learners. The long, wide green run nestled in the middle of the surrounding forest makes it a beautiful spot to gain some new skills.

For a cruisy blue – take the Chapelets chairlift and follow signs to the snow park but instead take the lovely wide blue run just to the left. It’s always groomed to perfection and is generally quite quiet compared to the adjoining piste next door. From here it would be a shame not to visit Mont Valon with a staggering summit of 2,952m – the ski down is a little windy and steep but the views at the top make it worthwhile!

In our opinion, two of the most underrated runs in Méribel are Faon and Blaireau, accessible from the top of the Tougnette 2 lift. They are typically quiet, well-groomed and perfect for both the speedsters and cruisers. Trust us – you’ll struggle to stop lapping these pistes. Once you have had enough, take a pit stop at the stunning <a href="https://www.maya-altitude.com/?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maya Altitude</a>. It’s pure luxury, and a gorgeous spot for a mountainside lunch break or hot chocolate.

Not far from the village of Le Fornet and just 200m to the Fornet Cable Car, the villa offers easy access to the slopes. Regular shuttles (with a stop 50m from the chalet) ensure the transfer of guests between the Fornet and Val d’Isère every five minutes during the day and in the evening.

Situated in the Tarentaise Valley within the Savoie Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, there’s a huge 150 km of piste to explore here. The main ski areas to familiarise yourself with in Courchevel are Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650 (Moriond or village), La Tania and La Praz.

Next, head down the Folyères blue towards la Tania – be prepared to get some cheeky air off the rollers.

When there’s a fresh dump of snow, dip under the Altiport chairlift through the trees for some safe, yet knee deep, beginner off-piste action. For the powder hounds, there are a couple of controlled zones worth a mention in the Courchevel valley, including the freeride lab and what’s known as the ‘go-pro’ couloir – both are exceptionally good spots.

Local tip – you’ll find the impressive <a href="https://www.cavedescreux-courchevel.com/en/home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cave des Creux</a> restaurant at the bottom of the wide sloping Cave des Creux piste. From the top of the Saulire lift it’s a fantastic ski down for intermediate and above levels. If you’re lucky you may be serenaded by resident strolling band The Strikes and be persuaded to stay for lunch. Of course, the Courchevel Family Park deserves a mention too, boasting a boardercross, giant airbag and everything you’d expect from an impressive snowpark.

A Day of Wine &amp; Art



For an unforgettable day of art and wine, make sure you head to Les Baux de Provence. A ruined castle and the remains of a medieval village lend a romantic aura to the isolated spot. There are only 22 residents inhabiting the village in 2017. Situated on a rocky mountain the name is derived from “bauc” the Provencal word for “rocky spur.” Quarries have existed at this site since antiquity. Limestone and then Bauxite were mined extensively. The remains of several mines make up the <a href="https://amaselections.com/magazine/an-immersive-art-experience?country=France&amp;region=Provence&amp;ref=true" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Carrières de Lumières</a> site where dramatic art shows with light and music play along the towering walls. For a taste of some of the delicious wines that come from Provence, visit Mas de la Dame situated at the foot of Les Baux de Provence. Mas de la Dame is run by the great granddaughters of the original owner. Domain Milan is another family-owned winery worth visiting that specializes in biodynamic wines. It is situated only 5 minute drive to Saint Rémy de Provence.



Continue your wine and art day by heading to Saint Rémy de Provence, a beautiful village with picturesque winding streets dotted with charming shops and restaurants. Not far from here, there is the famous Monastery of Saint-Paul de Mausole that was once a psychiatric asylum. Vincent Van Gogh was a patient at this asylum where he painted several of his most well known works, including The Starry Night.

A Day Exploring Local Villages



Reserve a day to <a href="https://amaselections.com/magazine/provence-towns-to-visit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">check out several of the delightful villages in Provence</a>.



Not far from Avignon is Gordes where you can visit remains from the Roman occupation, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Be sure to visit the medieval Abbaye de Senanque which was built in 1148.



L’isle sur la Sorgue is a picturesque village that’s often referred to as “the Venice of Provence.” It’s also known for “The International Antiques Fair” that occurs at Easter and in August.



Roussillon is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France which is saying something considering how many stunning villages there are. From 1942-1945, Samuel Beckett hid from the Nazis in Roussillon and mentions the town in his play, “Waiting For Godot.” Be sure to check out the “Sentier des Ocres” or “Ochre Trail,” which winds through the spectacular orange-red quarries.



Also considered one of France’s most beautiful villages, Lourmarin is nestled among vineyards and olive groves. Another famous writer, Albert Camus, lived there from 1913 to 1960.

A Day Trip to Camargue



Be sure to take a day trip to Camargue stopping by the city of Arles. Originally a Roman outpost, there are many remains from this period including the Roman baths of Constantine, the forum and an amphitheater. Artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso and Gauguin were inspired to paint here and there is now an annual contemporary photography festival, “Les Rencontres D’Arles.”



Set on the Rhone river, it’s easy to access the wild and beautiful Camargue regional national park where the famous white horses, pink flamingos and black bulls make a colorful backdrop to the marshes, beaches and salt fields where rice and salt are produced.

When there’s a fresh dump of snow, dip under the Altiport chairlift through the trees for some safe, yet knee deep, beginner off-piste action. For the powder hounds, there are a couple of controlled zones worth a mention in the Courchevel valley, including the freeride lab and what’s known as the ‘go-pro’ couloir – both are exceptionally good spots.

Local tip – you’ll find the impressive <a href="https://www.cavedescreux-courchevel.com/en/home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cave des Creux</a> restaurant at the bottom of the wide sloping Cave des Creux piste. From the top of the Saulire lift it’s a fantastic ski down for intermediate and above levels. If you’re lucky you may be serenaded by resident strolling band The Strikes and be persuaded to stay for lunch. Of course, the Courchevel Family Park deserves a mention too, boasting a boardercross, giant airbag and everything you’d expect from an impressive snowpark.

A Day of Wine &amp; Art



For an unforgettable day of art and wine, make sure you head to Les Baux de Provence. A ruined castle and the remains of a medieval village lend a romantic aura to the isolated spot. There are only 22 residents inhabiting the village in 2017. Situated on a rocky mountain the name is derived from “bauc” the Provencal word for “rocky spur.” Quarries have existed at this site since antiquity. Limestone and then Bauxite were mined extensively. The remains of several mines make up the <a href="https://amaselections.com/magazine/an-immersive-art-experience?country=France&amp;region=Provence&amp;ref=true" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Carrières de Lumières</a> site where dramatic art shows with light and music play along the towering walls. For a taste of some of the delicious wines that come from Provence, visit Mas de la Dame situated at the foot of Les Baux de Provence. Mas de la Dame is run by the great granddaughters of the original owner. Domain Milan is another family-owned winery worth visiting that specializes in biodynamic wines. It is situated only 5 minute drive to Saint Rémy de Provence.



Continue your wine and art day by heading to Saint Rémy de Provence, a beautiful village with picturesque winding streets dotted with charming shops and restaurants. Not far from here, there is the famous Monastery of Saint-Paul de Mausole that was once a psychiatric asylum. Vincent Van Gogh was a patient at this asylum where he painted several of his most well known works, including The Starry Night.

A Day Exploring Local Villages



Reserve a day to <a href="https://amaselections.com/magazine/provence-towns-to-visit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">check out several of the delightful villages in Provence</a>.



Not far from Avignon is Gordes where you can visit remains from the Roman occupation, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Be sure to visit the medieval Abbaye de Senanque which was built in 1148.



L’isle sur la Sorgue is a picturesque village that’s often referred to as “the Venice of Provence.” It’s also known for “The International Antiques Fair” that occurs at Easter and in August.



Roussillon is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France which is saying something considering how many stunning villages there are. From 1942-1945, Samuel Beckett hid from the Nazis in Roussillon and mentions the town in his play, “Waiting For Godot.” Be sure to check out the “Sentier des Ocres” or “Ochre Trail,” which winds through the spectacular orange-red quarries.



Also considered one of France’s most beautiful villages, Lourmarin is nestled among vineyards and olive groves. Another famous writer, Albert Camus, lived there from 1913 to 1960.

A Day Trip to Camargue



Be sure to take a day trip to Camargue stopping by the city of Arles. Originally a Roman outpost, there are many remains from this period including the Roman baths of Constantine, the forum and an amphitheater. Artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso and Gauguin were inspired to paint here and there is now an annual contemporary photography festival, “Les Rencontres D’Arles.”



Set on the Rhone river, it’s easy to access the wild and beautiful Camargue regional national park where the famous white horses, pink flamingos and black bulls make a colorful backdrop to the marshes, beaches and salt fields where rice and salt are produced.

Explore Antiparos Town



Chora is the main town and port on the island. Comfortably walkable, it’s fun to explore. Be sure to visit the <a href="https://antiparos.com/explore/the-castle/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Venetian castle (Kastro)</a> that was constructed in 1440 when the Venetian Giovanni Loredano married Maria Sommaripa of Antiparos. A residential complex built within fortress walls, this is one of the most fascinating Medieval structures in the Aegean. There are four old churches; Christos, Agios Antonios, Agios Ioannis and Agios Nikolaos that are worth taking time to see.

For a break from traditional Greek cuisine, have lunch at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/lollosantiparos/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lollo’s Antiparos</a> restaurant. Bringing the tastes of Italy to Greece, Lollo’s offers delicious wood fired pizza as well as other Italian dishes with a view of the harbor.



Visit Kambos village



An alternative would be to visit the beautiful churches in the village of Kambos and the nearby Cave of Antiparos, the number one attraction on the island. The only vertical cave in Europe, it is approximately 85 meters deep and has stunning stalactites and stalagmites including the oldest stalactite in Europe estimated to be 45 million years old.

Go hiking or biking



Another option is biking or hiking along the many routes on the island either along the coast or in the countryside. Take a picnic and choose among the many scenic spots on Antiparos for a midday break.

A popular destination, the Aeolian (or Lipari) islands are a volcanic archipelago north of <a href="https://amaselections.com/italy/holiday-villa-rentals-sicily" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sicily</a>. Their name comes from the Greek god of the winds, Aeolus. Formed by volcanic eruptions beneath the sea, there are seven significant islands, all of which have their own unique charms.



Lipari



The largest and most populous of the islands is Lipari which is also the name of its town. This is the ideal place to begin exploring as its harbor is full of boats leading to the other islands. Inhabited for at least 6000 years, Lipari still has defensive walls surrounding the citadel above the town. Make sure to climb the staircase to the top to explore the citadel as well as the Cathedral of San Bartolo. Built in the Norman period, only the arched cloisters remain, the rest of the Cathedral having been rebuilt. The Lipari Archeological Museum of the Aeolian Islands has twenty seven sections that cover the Neolithic period to the present.

Vulcano



The Romans believed Vulcano was the chimney of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, thus the origin of our word for volcano. With several active volcanoes, it is a fascinating place to visit and well worth spending a day or two exploring the various caldera. Take time to enjoy a mud bath and relax on one of the beaches. There are three villages on the island so you will find accommodations, shops and restaurants.

Salina



The second largest of the islands, Salina is the only one with a natural water source. Quieter than Lipari, it’s mountainous beauty and coastal beaches provide a tranquil escape from more crowded islands. If you feel adventurous, hire a scooter and explore the island. Colorful flowers, caper bushes and cacti are just some of the natural fauna here. The film, “Il Postino,” was shot in Pollara, an old fishing village on the coast but there are several charming villages that offer accommodation and amenities.

Stromboli



An island with an active volcano that has been erupting since ancient times, Stromboli is one of the most dramatic of the islands and well worth a visit. Due to its almost constant action, the island is known as “the lighthouse of the Mediterranean.” You can wander around the main village (“Stromboli”) or take a boat around the island and watch as the volcano ejects clouds of steam and fire, most dramatic at nighttime. If you’re an intrepid adventurer, climb to the crater to watch it in action up close.



Filicudi



One of the smaller islands with a population of just 300, Filicudi is considered one of the least touristy islands in Italy. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t got plenty of options for visiting and enjoying the island’s natural beauty and deep crystal blue grottoes. There are lovely hotels and restaurants offering local cuisine. Visit the Grotta del Bue Marino which you can enter in a small boat, the prehistoric village of Capo Graziano where lichen covers the stone foundations of 27 Bronze Age huts and the imposing rock tower, Scoglio della Canna, which can be viewed from the coast or from a boat.

Alicudi



If you treasure solitude and quiet, visit Alicudi, the second smallest island of the archipelago. There are no cars, only mules for transport and it is as wild as Filicudi. Known as the “island of silence,” there are only 100 inhabitants, two grocery stores, one bar, no streets but plenty of stairs that lead you up to appreciate the stunning views.

If possible, you should spend a lot more time in Mykonos Town than one day but if that’s all you have, the following suggestions should give you a good feel for this delightful town.



Morning



Begin your day with breakfast at a Mykonos Bakery such as <a href="https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g662620-d7133219-Reviews-Gioras_Wood_Medieval_Mykonian_Bakery-Mykonos_Town_Mykonos_Cyclades_South_Aegean.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gioras Wood Bakery</a>. Try their spanakopita, a traditional savory Greek spinach pie.

Save the morning for the Chora (the old town) where you can spend hours exploring the cobblestone streets and boutiques. Don’t miss the traditional white washed Panagia Paraportiani (Our Lady of the Side Gate), a famous church complex. Begun in the 15th century, it was completed in the 17th century and consists of four churches with a fifth built above them. If you love art there are several galleries you should visit including <a href="https://www.raritygallery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rarity Gallery</a>, <a href="https://www.diohoria.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dio Horia Gallery</a> and <a href="http://www.thehouseoffineart.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HOFA</a> (House of Fine Art).

Walk off your lunch along the coast to the windmills that are so quintessential to Mykonos. Built hundreds of years ago, they are no longer operational though several have been turned into museums, the most famous being Bonis Windmill. Ten minutes from the windmills, you can enjoy a refreshing swim on Megali Ammos Beach. The name means “large sand” and this describes this large stretch of beach perfectly. There tends to be strong winds here so there are few if any umbrellas but it’s a fun spot to soak up some sun and enjoy the sea.

As the light begins to wane, Mykonos comes alive with bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Stop for an aperitif at <a href="https://galleraki.gr/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galleraki Cocktail Bar</a> and watch the sun set over the sea, then head on to dinner at <a href="https://www.avra-mykonos.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Avra</a>. One of the top restaurants on Mykonos, this trendy garden restaurant offers both Greek and international cuisine in a beautiful courtyard resplendent with colorful bougainvillea and lit by candles.



If you’re still feeling energetic, make sure to check out the bars such as <a href="https://baosmykonos.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bao’s</a> or <a href="https://www.skandinavianbar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Scandinavian Bar and Disco</a> before heading to a well deserved rest.
